It started with a dominant performance from Wheeler and an epic ninth-inning comeback in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series on Friday night in St. Louis. It continued with a gem from Nola and a mammoth homer from Harper in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon. It was the feeling fans got when they watched the players sing Calum Scott’s “Dancing on My Own” (Tiësto Remix) in a champagne-soaked visitors’ clubhouse after ending St. Louis’ season.

They had four hits in this game, but clustered them in one inning. He got Harris to bounce into a force play and then gave way to Phillies reliever Andrew Bellatti. Grossman grounded to second, but beat the relay throw to prolong the inning. Acuna singled to left, but Bellatti came back and struck out Swanson for the third time in the game. And, for the first time this postseason, both starters pitched well. Quality starting pitching has been hard to come by so far this October. The first two seeds are determined by regular season winning percentages. The final two teams are the winner of the National League Wild Card Series, played between the league's third to sixth-seeded teams. The Phillies knocked out Fried in the fourth, the left-hander leaving with runners at second and third. Jesse Chavez had a chance to escape the jam after he struck out Realmuto, but Castellanos came through with another two-our hit — a single to left that brought home two more runs for a 6-1 lead.

Urias finished with a line that read three earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts over five innings. Four Dodgers bullpen arms came out after that, tactically placed by Roberts and the move worked in his favor. From there, both bullpens shut down the hitters that came to the plate, with the score staying the same up until the end of the game when Chris Martin got the save to notch the win for the home team. The Game 1 winner in a best-of-five postseason series has gone on to win the series 72 percent of the time . It wouldn't be the first time the Dodgers altered Urías’ postseason usage.

Braves’ comeback falls short as Phillies steal Game 1 of NLDS

The home run was the hardest-hit Dodgers home run of the year clocking in with an exit velocity of 114.9 mph. Mookie Betts leads off, as he has done in all 138 starts this season and in over 93 percent of his starts since joining the Dodgers. Webb confounded the Dodgers with a slew of changeups and sliders, accounting 67 of his 92 pitches (72.8 percent), and why not?

ATLANTA -- The Phillies played Garrett Stubbs’ “Phils Win” playlist after Game 1 of the National League Division Series at Truist Park, just like they always do when they win. But he's not out there throwing upper-90s with a knee-buckling curveball. He works with an upper-80s sinker and a dead fish changeup, and it works for him because his command is elite.

Stephens allowed an infield single to Harper, but nothing else in the ninth. The Phillies turned to Zach Eflin to close it out in the ninth. Atlanta wasn’t going to go away quietly as Acuna began the inning by reaching on an infield single.

"For Gavin to take that first postseason at-bat and hit a homer, I can't say I expected it, but I'm very happy for him." Thompson gets the start against the right-hander over the left-handed Joey Gallo. Chris Taylor, who made the roster but hasn’t played in a game since September 30. Taylor, who logged something close to 10 at-bats in simulated situations in the last few days, is available off the bench. Will Smith, the Dodgers’ cleanup hitter, hit home runs off Clevinger in two of those three starts, collecting four hits in seven at-bats. Betts, Turner, and Freeman have occupied the top three spots of the Dodgers batting order in 135 games this season.

NLDS Game 1: Dodgers 5, Padres 3

Musgrove worked around a Freddie Freeman double in the first when Trent Grisham made a ranging catch of a fly ball to end the inning. Tyler Anderson then worked around a Manny Machado single in the bottom of the inning. The top of the third inning would see the game's first action, with runners on second and third and one out, Freeman's two-run double gave the Dodgers the first runs of the game. In the top of the seventh, the Dodgers loaded the bases against the Padres bullpen with no outs, but only scored one run on a Will Smith sacrifice fly. Tim Hill retired the next two batters to prevent further damage. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Padres took the lead with a five-run inning against Tommy Kahnle, Yency Almonte, and Alex Vesia.

Game 2 is Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium before the series shifts south to San Diego. I took the ball today and put us in a big hole right away, right off the bat,” Fried said. Philadelphia carried a 7-3 lead into the ninth before Eflin allowed a three-run home run to Matt Olson to cut the lead to one.

Vierling bunted him to third and Segura scored on a sacrifice fly by Sosa to make it 7-1. Chavez was then replaced by Dylan Lee who got Schwarber to ground out to end the inning. It looked it was going to be a quick first inning for Max Fried initially who got Kyle Schwarber to ground out on the first pitch of the game.

The Padres were coming off a win in the decisive Game 3 of the wild-card series Sunday night over the Mets in New York. Trea Turner homered and doubled as the Dodgers won 5-3 on Tuesday night in the NL Division Series opener. LOS ANGELES — The well-rested Los Angeles Dodgers raced out to a big lead early and hung on against the upstart San Diego Padres. The Braves open postseason play in mere hours and we now know who is going to be available in the NLDS against the Phillies. Max Fried had one of his worst starts of the season, and despite some late heroics from the offense, drop Game One.

The inning started with Realmuto hitting a dribbler back to Fried, but his throw to first pulled Olson off the bag. Realmuto moved to second as Bryce Harper dropped down a bunt for some unknown reason. Castellanos struck again with a double off the bricks in right, Acuna played it nicely and was able to hold Realmuto at third. Segura brought home another run with a single to center to extend the lead to 4-1. Fried got Vierling to ground out to Austin Riley at third to bring the inning to a merciful end. The Phillies needed to play good defense, too, because the pitching got shaky at times.

The ball hit off the heel of Myers’ glove and he missed it on the pickup, leaving no chance to make a play on the speedy Bellinger. Choking up, Cody Bellinger initially was thought to have been hit by a pitch and took first base as Muncy was forced in. But upon video review, it appeared the ball hit the knob of the bat.
